• Chickens

Near the Strawbale House and the Pear Orchard, we have our “Chick-ita Casita” (chicken coop). By request, we host Chicken Happy Hour, where we let the chickens out to forage in the orchard before sunset. Guests and chickens alike love mingling in the fresh air during this free roam time.

Meet our Newest Residents: The Aravaipa Bees

We are excited to welcome back bees this coming spring. Our renewed beekeeping efforts will support local pollinators and provide guests with a unique glimpse into the fascinating world of beekeeping. Soon you'll be able to see our busy bees at work, and maybe sample some farm-fresh honey during your stay. Stay tuned as we prepare to introduce these vital pollinators to our orchards and gardens.

Native Animals

As a part of our secluded environment, we do get the pleasure of making new desert friends. The most commonly seen are birds, including Vermillion Flaycatcher, Hooded Oriole, Anna’s Hummingbird, Bridled Titmouse, Cassin’s Kingbird, Gambel’s Quail, Nightjar, Screech Owl, and Red Tailed Hawk.

In addition to birds, we also see and hear the occasional desert animals, including Javelina, Coatimundi, Desert Big Horn Sheep, Great Horned Owls, Coyotes, Bobcats, White Tailed Deer, Mice, and various snakes. The land surrounding our oasis is their home, so we are bound to cross paths. Do not worry though! These animals are more scared of you than you are of them, and should keep their distance. They would appreciate it if you kept your distance from them as well!

We’ve partnered with the Tucson Audubon Society.

Several Owl Boxes and Nest Boxes have been placed around our property to help keep the wildlife out of our orchards.

If you’re interested in also placing one of these boxes on your property to encourage birds and owls to roost, we have a few for sale in our on-site market.
