The Animals

In addition to the fauna that come from living in the remote desert, we have miniature horses, a miniature donkey, goats, chickens, and bees, which are all cared for on our property.

  • Chickens

Near the Strawbale House and the Pear Orchard, we have our “Chick-ita Casita” (chicken coop). Each evening we let the chickens out to forage in the orchard before sunset and invite guests to join for an event we call Chicken Happy Hour. Guests and chickens alike love mingling in the fresh air during this free roam time.

We also sell the eggs in our on-site store by the dozen or half dozen.

  • Four-legged Friends

We're delighted to announce that we've expanded our farm to welcome a few new animals: Precious, the miniature donkey, and her friends Dusty and Oreo, the miniature horses, can be seen joyfully trotting or nibbling on snacks in their new pen, which is closest to the Airstream. Willow and Scarlett are our adventurous goats and are sure to give you a chuckle.

Grab a bag of treats from the office and feed them yourself!

  • Pollinators

We partner with Dos Manos Apiaries out of Tucson to take care of our pollinator friends. Guests who taste it say it’s the best honey they’ve ever had—and we have to say, we’ve never tasted anything like it, either. Jars of honey can be purchased on-site in our Market, or from Dos Manos Apiaries. All the flowers we’ve planted were picked with pollinators in mind, including bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies. When the orchard is blossoming, you can hear them hard at work.

  • Free-Range Chicken Eggs

We collect the eggs from our chickens each morning. Eggs can be purchased by the dozen or half-dozen.

  • Dos Manos Apiaries Honey

The honey our pollinators produce is collected and refined by Dos Manos Apiaries. We sell their honey in our on-site market.

Native Animals

As a part of our secluded environment, we do get the pleasure of making new desert friends. The most commonly seen are birds, including Vermillion Flaycatcher, Hooded Oriole, Anna’s Hummingbird, Bridled Titmouse, Cassin’s Kingbird, Gambel’s Quail, Nightjar, Screech Owl, and Red Tailed Hawk.

In addition to birds, we also see and hear the occasional desert animals, including Javelina, Coatimundi, Desert Big Horn Sheep, Great Horned Owls, Coyotes, Bobcats, White Tailed Deer, Mice, and various snakes. The land surrounding our oasis is their home, so we are bound to cross paths. Do not worry though! These animals are more scared of you than you are of them, and should keep their distance. They would appreciate it if you kept your distance from them as well!

Grab your binoculars.

Catalogue which species you see while you are at Aravaipa Farms and the surrounding area.

We’ve partnered with the Tucson Audubon Society.

Several Owl Boxes and Nest Boxes have been placed around our property to help keep the wildlife out of our orchards.

If you’re interested in also placing one of these boxes on your property to encourage birds and owls to roost, we have a few for sale in our on-site market.
